Abstract

Abstract: Anemia is a major health problem that occurs in society and is often found throughout the world, especially in developing countries like Indonesia. Anemia is more common in adolescent girls compared to adolescent boys. Some research results in several regions in Indonesia show the high prevalence of anemia in adolescent girls. Ministry of health republic of Indonesia (2013) shows the national prevalence of anemia in all age groups is 21.70%. The prevalence of anemia in women is relatively higher (23.90%) compared to men (18.40%). This study aims to analyse the experience of adolescents who experience anemia in surabaya.the research method used is a qualitative method with a descriptive phenomenological design. Data collected by the semi-structured interview method and analyzed by using the colaizzi’s method. The results showed the causes of anemia such as knowledge, nutritional intake, diet, menstruation, nutritional status, micronutrient fe, and socioeconomic conditions.Education should be emphasized on nutrition so that students not only know but can apply it in real life. In addition, the use of student activity units in the health sector such as the volunteer corps in running a program to give fe tablets to female students every month to reduce the incidence of anemia.
