Abstract

Procrastination is an act of putting off particular task or duty. Many students delay completing their thesis and choose other activities that are seen as more fun, such as watching, hanging out, traveling, and going on vacation so that it takes up their time. Students who are finishing their thesis actually need support, but in reality many students do not get the attention and motivation of the people around them. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between social support and academic procrastination in students who completed their thesis. The design of this study was an analytic observational correlation with a cross sectional approach. The population of the study was 109 and a sample of 86 respondents were selected. The sampling technique was in term of simple random sampling. The independent variable was social support. The dependent variable was academic procrastination. The instruments were MSPSS and TPS questionnaires. Data analysis was conducted by means of Spearman test. The results of this study indicated that there was a relationship between social support variables and academic procrastination in students was in progress of completing their theses. The results of Spearman test indicated ρ = 0.000 (ρ < 0.05). Family social support has the highest influence in reducing academic procrastination behavior, while the lowest social support is peer support, so it is hoped that peers can provide better support or motivation to their friends to be more enthusiastic in completing thesis and completing studies on time.
