Abstract
ABSTRACT Cardiac arrest incidents have a very low survival rate but are often encountered in public and crowded places which are usually called Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA). In this regard, police members, specifically members of the Ditsabhara Polda Jatim, whose duties are mostly in the community, must know and be ready to administer basic life support as a step in handling emergencies until medical assistance arrives. The aim of this research is to determine the relationship between knowledge and the readiness of members of the Ditsabhara Polda Jatim to implement basic life support in the event of Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA). The design of this research is quantitative research with a cross sectional approach, using a sample of 134 people with purposive sampling. The data collection technique uses a google form by filling out a questionnaire on knowledge and readiness for basic life support management. The results of this research indicate that the better knowledge a person has about basic life support, the more prepared the person will be in carrying out basic life support. The Pearson Correlation Test shows that there is a relationship between knowledge of basic life support and readiness to implement basic life support = 0.003 (< α = 0.05). The conclusion of this research is that there is a relationship between knowledge and readiness to carry out basic life support in cases of Out of Hospital Cardiac Arrest (OHCA), so it is hoped that basic life support training can be provided to members of the public service, especially members of the Ditsabhara Polda Jatim.
