Abstract

Background: Cervical cancer is a cancer caused by HPV infection. The resulting impact makes the patient diagnosed to have both psychological or physical side effects that affect the quality of life during treatment. The purpose of this study to analyze the relationship of self-concept with quality of life in Gynecology Polyclinic of Dr. Ramelan Navy Hospital of Surabaya. Methods: The design of this research is analytic observational with cross sectional approach. Independent variable is self-concept and dependent variable is quality of life Sampling technique use non probability sampling with purposive sampling. The sample of the study was cervical cancer patients in Gynecology Polyclinic of Dr. Ramelan Navy Hospital of Surabaya amounted to 36 people, the instrument using a questionnaire sheet. The statistical test used Spearman Rho Correlation. Results: The results showed that the most self-conspective value was positive (83.3%) while the quality of life of cervical cancer patients was sufficient (52.8%). Spearman Rho Correlation test showed there is a correlation of self-concept with quality of life of cervical cancer patient in Gynecology Polyclinic of Dr. Ramelan Navy Hospital of Surabaya with value ρ value = 0.000 <α = 0.05, with correlation coefficient 0,623 (r ≤ 0,1000). Conclusion: The implications of the study indicate that a positive quality of life will motivate patients with cervical cancer can still actualize themselves and not give up with the limitations of the positive self-concept is very important in helping overcome various problems of life and provide better quality of life in patients with cervical cancer in Gynecology Polyclinic of Dr. Ramelan Navy Hospital of Surabaya.
