Abstract

There are many parents that want to give the best nutrition for their children by giving instant milk in the bottle that is given when their children is going to sleep. That behavior can cause caries for their children. It is famous with “nursing bottle caries”. This can be happened because the hoard of milk in the mouth when children sleep is a good way for bacterium for multiplying and producing acid that can damage teeth. By seeing in that background, the purpose of this research is to know the relation of giving the milk before sleeping with “nursing bottle caries” for the children. The research design use cross sectional for knowing the relation of giving the milk before sleeping with “nursing bottle caries” for the children between 2 until 4 years old that the samples are taken depend on “simple random sampling” method with 56 respondents at PAUD Melati Kelurahan Kandangan Kecamatan Benowo Surabaya. Data is taken by using quisioner and observation, after data is submitted, tabulated frequency is done and the last is statistical test by using “chi squars” The result shows that a lot of children is given milk in the bottle before sleeping (71,4 %) and happen “nursing bottle caries” (67,9 %). The result of research also shows there is a signify relation between giving milk before sleeping and the happen of “nursing bottle caries” for the children between 2 until 4 years old with p value 0,000 Based on this research, schools are recommended to give a counseling or give a leaflet about giving milk before sleeping with the happen “nursing bottle caries” and also recommended to the parents for giving no milk before sleeping.
