Abstract
ABSTRACT Smoking behavior becomes a habit in some teenagers. It is largely influenced by the concept of self and perception of adolescents about smoking. The purpose of this study is whether there is a relationship between self-concept and perception of adolescents with smoking behavior. The study design was observational analytic with cross sectional approach. Samples were taken using simple random sampling with probability proportionate stratified sampling calculations obtained a sample of 88 students of class XI who smoke at SMK Negeri 1 Jatirejo. The independent variable is the concept of self, a second independent variable was the perception of teenagers, and the dependent variable smoking behavior. The research instrument using a questionnaire. Data analysis using Chi-square statistic test with significance level ρ <0.05. The result showed that self-concept in class XI at SMK Negeri 1 Jatirejo mostly positive 64 (72,7%), teen perception mostly positive 50 (56,8%), smoking behavior most of the mild smokers 59 (67,0%). Statistical test the concept of self-obtained ρ = 0.009, and the perception of adolescents obtained ρ = 0643. It can be concluded there is a self-concept relationship with smoking behavior, there is no relationship with the adolescent's perception of smoking behavior. Application of this study is to provide input to the school to better control the students in order to reduce the smoking behavior as well as the need to give a briefing on positive self-concept that should be owned by the students.
